Standing on the Promises of God

Joshua 23:14 ~ and you know in all your hearts and in all your souls that not one word of all the good words which the Lord your God spoke concerning you has failed; all have been fulfilled for you, not one of them has failed.

Have you ever heard a direct word from God that was a promise He made to you?

Has that promise been fulfilled or are you still waiting?

I was single for 38 years. I barely even dated the last 10 years I was single.  God had me in a place that I was fully surrendered to doing missions and most of that time was filled to the full of the joy of serving God.  However, I had moments when I felt the full weight of the loneliness of having no family or love of my own.  In those moments I would doubt the promise I thought I had heard from God, that He was going to send me a husband.  In those moments the enemy would pounce on that doubt and make me feel as if God had forgotten His promise or that I had done something to prevent it from being fulfilled.  When the doubts would overwhelm me, I would forget all the promises He had already fulfilled in my life.

The bible is full of the fulfilled promises of God.  The greatest of them all was the life and sacrifice of Jesus Christ and what that did for sinners like me.  Any time I am standing on a promise that I believe God has given me and I start to doubt, I try to remind myself of all that He has already done.  If God says it will happen, it will happen.  Even if we mess up, even if we doubt, even if we get impatient.  He ALWAYS delivers on His promises.

Waiting is painful, especially when you are waiting for something that can fill an ache or a loneliness that seems to be consuming you.  The enemy can use that pain to push his agenda of doubting God.

God answered my prayer for a family and love of my own in 2011. It was a spectacular, surprising answer that happened so fast it gave me whiplash.  One moment I was twiddling my thumbs wondering if I had misunderstood God’s promise, the next moment I was marrying the love of my life. I am now standing in the beauty of what was once my desperate, painful, all-consuming prayer.

God has given me more promises over the years that I am still waiting on Him to fulfill. The amazing thing is now I am not desperate.  Doubts come, but I am able to answer those doubts with the truth that God always fulfills His promises.  I answer with, “I HAVE PROOF!”  I then start listing out the promises He has fulfilled.  Regardless of the promise, regardless of how long you have been waiting, God will provide what He has promised you.  Stand on it!
